Hey everybody!

How is life in 2011?! Guyana is actually still the same, hot humid and amazing. I came back from Tobago on the 3th of January. Tobago was an amazing experience; stories would include waterskiing, snorkeling, partying and relaxing. That’s just a short sum-up of everything we’ve done. But seeing it did not really fit in the actual “volunteer” picture I will not talk about it for ages. Lets just call it a well deserved time off paid for by myself. (Some photos from Tobago are on facebook)

Being back in Guyana is fun as well thought, as I already mentioned. At the moment I teach way more chemistry, grade 9A B C + grade 10 + grade 11 instead of just grade 10. And actually more English too. I teach grade 10 still but together with Miss Janice, who is a senior teacher in school so pretty much she teaches. This makes my life a lot easier seeing I no longer have to pretend to know English. People here always think I’m English (apparently I’m that good) but then again their English is more creol.

Next to that we were paid our first paycheck on the 21 of December. This was the money we had to live off the 3 months before so most of it went straight to shops that we owed. After that we had some left to go to Tobago with the day after. It is nice thought that we now finally are on the regular payroll and we get our money every month. This enables us to finally live a normal life thought, we can buy what we want and actually go out on weekends. Of course there still are students everywhere so we’re trying to get to boa vista/Shulinab in the next weekends. Boa vista is the nearest major town in Brazil and Shulinab is a little village on the savannah about 2 hours away from us where two other volunteers live, Gary and Alex.

I know a lot of people are screaming for more photos from Guyana but since I keep on forgetting my USB/SD card or the internet is just too bad I have not been able to upload much more. I am trying to get a SD card back to Amsterdam and then maybe Arthur can upload/show you some. This will take a lot longer before they are there thought.

Life in St. Ignatius has been made a lot easier by the purchases of Calum. He bought us a fridge/freezer, fan and a second bike in one week. Fan and bike where his Christmas present, fridge I kinda had to pay for as well. Even thought it was 300+ euros it was a good investment already and we will try to sell it again at the end of the year.

Anyway that’s it for now, if you have any questions responses or reactions please send me a mail or text. (005926744243) costs me about 5 eurocent to text back :P love the cheapness of some places.

Cya and xxx

Stefan
